GREENSBURG, Ind. — Honda may be considering more investment in Indiana when it comes to building electric vehicle (EV) batteries.

Honda and South Korea-based LG Energy Solutions are teaming up to build another EV battery manufacturing plant somewhere in the Midwest. Most reports say that Ohio is the front runner for the plant, but that Indiana may be close behind.

The potential site lies in Greensburg near Honda’s existing car manufacturing facility where they churn out the Honda CR-V and other popular models. There are some hang-ups to the possibility of the plant coming to Indiana though.

“There’s much more work to be done as far as workforce training,” said Bryan Robbins, executive director of Greensburg-Decatur County Economic Development Corporation. “Particularly with some of these higher-tech investments up north with BioMed and battery and chips and what not.”

Robbins said on Inside Indiana Business that the more public-private partnerships between businesses and schools like Purdue and Ivy Tech the better.

LG Energy Solutions is already investing in building EV batteries in Indiana. Last week they announced a partnership with Ultium Cells, Inc to build an EV battery plant in New Carlisle in northern Indiana.
