WILLIAMSPORT, Penn. — The Hagerstown Little League team has advanced in the Little League World Series after knocking off Iowa in a back and forth battle in Williamsport.

Indiana gave up a run early in the first, but in the next two innings went on to score seven unanswered runs to jump out to a 7-1 lead by the end of the third inning. However, Iowa battled back to tie the game over the next few innings bringing on a 7-7 tie going into the sixth and final inning.

Kaden Hall then stepped to the plate for Indiana and hit a grounder to short set up what could have been a double play for Iowa. But, Iowa could not make the throw to first which allowed Indiana to bring in the winning run to win the game 8-7.

The notoriety surrounding the team has been bringing a lot of attention to Hagerstown and is having the community rally together to watch their kids succeed.

“It definitely has got us noticed,” said Hagerstown town manager Chris Lamar on WISH-TV. “We’re by far the smallest town (in the Little League World Series) with a population of roughly 1,800. I think the next smallest town to Hagerstown is around 5,000, so it’s definitely putting us on the map.”

“Their success speaks to the quality of programs that we have such as the Little League program, and so it’s just outstanding that for such a small community that we can provide our students with opportunities like that,” said Nettle Creek Schools Superintendent Emily Schaeffer.

It’s not clear who the team will play next on Monday. They await the winner of today’s match-up between the Southeast (Tennessee) and Mountain (Utah) Regions.
