FORT WAYNE, Ind. — 12 people, most of whom were children, were hurt in a crash on a U.S. highway near Fort Wayne Monday night.

State police say they came across a pick-up truck split into two pieces along with a large passenger van in a ditch. The van had a smashed front end.

Troopers were quickly able to figure out that the van has T-Boned the pick-up truck at an intersection on U.S. 27 south of Fort Wayne.

After the impact, ten children, ranging in age from 6 months to 15 years old, became trapped inside the van. All were removed and taken to hospitals.

Troopers suspect that the driver of the pick-up, 65-year-old David Mourey of Hoagland, was drunk and pulled out in front of the van after ignoring a yield sign. Mourey is likely to face charges in the incident but so far none of been filed yet.
