SOUTH BEND, Ind.–The Dodge truck Seth Becker was driving Tuesday night reached speeds of 50 to 60 mph on a city street. Court documents say Becker, 25, admitted later that he wanted to kill himself and hurt others. He only accomplished part of that.

When his truck hit a Dodge Durango, Janeth Gomez, 58, was killed. The driver had a broken arm and his face was injured. Two teenagers in the SUV were also hurt.

The Durango crashed into another car, causing the person in  it a severe eye injury.

Becker was charged Thursday with reckless homicide, criminal recklessness and several counts of reckless driving.

Court papers say Becker told staff at the hospital that he was trying to kill himself and hurt others. He also told police, “I was trying to kill myself.”

Police do not believe he was drunk or on drugs. But, they do know that he had been in somesort of fight with someone (they did not specify the relationship), telling them, “I’ve got some business to take care of,” before getting in the truck.
