BOONE COUNTY, Ind.–There was a fatal crash Thursday morning on southbound I-65 near the I-865 interchange in Boone County near Whitestown.

It happened around 5:30. One person was killed. Police say a semi was involved.

“The Boone County Communications Center received a 911 call saying that pedestrian had been struck by a semi tractor-trailer. It was still pretty dark at that time. The semi was going southbound and the pedestrian entered the roadway. They were struck and killed,” said Wesley Garst, deputy and public information officer with the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.

Police aren’t sure why the person was on the interstate. The driver of the semi has been cooperating with police.

“That portion is still under investigation. We don’t want to give out false information,” said Garst.

It closed the right lanes of the interstate near Whitestown Parkway and I-865 for several hours, but all lanes have since reopened.

Currently, this incident is under investigation by the Boone County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team.
