ATTICA, Ind.–A former EMT who secretly recorded his girlfriend’s daughter’s friend taking a shower and then tried to record his girlfriend’s 14-year-old daughter, was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for sexual exploitation and federal child pornography charges.
Court documents say Brett Cearing, 30, of Attica, hid a small camera in what looked like a cell phone charger and captured video of the 16-year-old girl for several months when she visited the house in 2020.
This was at Cearing’s house, where the girlfriend and her daughter were living.
Cearing then edited the video to focus on the girl’s genitalia.
He hid the videos in an app called “Hyper Tornado Secret Calculator”, which required a key to get access. Cearing also attempted to record the girlfriend’s daughter while she was in the shower.
Cearing admitted in court that he recorded the daughter’s friend because he had a sexual interest in her.
After his arrest in August 2020, Cearing was let out on bail. In January 2021, he was charged with public indecency after exposing himself and masturbating to a young woman in a Love’s parking lot in Knightstown.
He was locked up again and not allowed out.
Cearing will have to pay the victim $10,000 as part of his sentence, will be on probation for seven years once he gets out, and will have to register as a sex offender.
