INDIANAPOLIS – IMPD homicide detectives arrested an inmate at the Marion County Adult Detention Center.
On Sunday, June 19, just after 10 p.m., IMPD officers were called to the Criminal Justice Center for a homicide investigation. Detectives were told that 36-year-old Charles Barron was inside his cell unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators identified Barron’s cellmate, D’Angelo Smith, as a suspect. Detectives believe Smith assaulted Barron, leading to his death. Smith has been detained and he’s been arrested for murder.
Barron had been in custody since June 12 on a charge of unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle and criminal mischief.
