INDIANAPOLIS – Maurice Lillie was sentenced Wednesday to 55 years in prison for killing another man at a gas station in 2020.

On May 26, 2020, police found a man who had been shot behind a gas station in the 2700 block of East 38th Street. That’s north of George Washington Park on the north east side of Indy. The victim was identified as Dustin McClennon.

According to a witness, Lillie approached him as he was pumping gas and explained that he believed the victim had disrespected his wife. The witness then saw Lillie use a golf club to hit McClennon multiple times in the head and back. He then dragged his body behind the gas station.

Lillie later approached the witness and asked, “Do you want to help hide a dead body?”. He and two others then fled the area in a dark colored SUV. A separate car believed to be Lillie’s was left at the scene. Investigators also found a bent golf club in a dumpster behind the gas station. A bloody knife was also in the trunk of the car that was left at the scene.

According to the autopsy report, the cause of death was stabbing and blunt force trauma.

During an interview, Lillie admitted to being at the gas station, going to the trunk of his car to get the golf club, dragging the victims body behind a gas station, removing a knife from the victims neck, and telling the witness that the witness did not see anything.

In May, Lillie was convicted of murder by a jury after a one-day trial.
