Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears’ revolving door of justice cost another person their life Friday night.

32-year-old David Ice stands accused of shooting and killing 44-year-old Darryl Ransom Jr. after a drug deal went bad around 10:30 on Friday night in the 600 block of N. Dearborn Street.

Ice was wearing a GPS device at the time after being charged with felony battery in April. He was accused of assaulting a co-worker at the Salvation Army building on east Washington.

Earlier this year, Ice was also charged with auto theft and illegal driving.

Ice was released with a GPS bracelet after serving only 8 days of a 2-year sentence.

30 days later, Ice allegedly shot and killed Ransom in a dispute over money for narcotics.

Homicide detectives located Ice about five hours after the shooting and arrested him on a preliminary charge of murder.
