AUBURN, Ind. — It seems the man who shot and killed two burglars in his home in Dekalb County Sunday had a history with the people who broke in.

A group of people came to the man’s house Saturday and demanded money. One of them was Shaun Kruse, who knew the homeowner from having stayed at the house a few times before.

Kruse said that he was in need of cash to pay back some “bad people.” They were successful in taking money from the homeowner Saturday and decided to come back for more early Sunday morning.

Court documents say Kruse was the getaway driver, while Dylan Morefield, Rameica Moore, and Tabitha Johnson forced their way into the home. They held a gun to the homeowner’s head, but the homeowner got free, grabbed his shotgun, and fatally shot Moore and Morefield.

Investigators say that’s when the homeowner marched Johnson at gunpoint back to the car where Kruse was and held the two there. He forced Kruse to then call 911.

Kruse and Johnson are now in the Dekalb County Jail charged with murder and burglary, according to Indiana State Police. The homeowner is not facing any charges for the deaths of Moore and Morefield.
