WAYNE COUNTY, Ind. – The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department says a newborn child died after a woman who was pregnant with twins was involved in a head-on collision Saturday afternoon.
Police say a 44-year-old man from Indianapolis was driving east on Lamar Road when he moved his car toward the center line to make way for someone who was mowing their lawn near the side of the road. A 24-year-old woman from Hagerstown, was driving in the opposite lane and the two cars crashed head-on.
The woman was nine months pregnant with twins, according to the Sheriff’s Department. She was taken to a hospital for an emergency caesarian section to deliver the twins. One of the newborns did not survive.
Both drivers are being treated for injuries in the hospital.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department is still investigating the crash.
