KYIV, Ukraine. — Russia and Ukraine are telling conflicting stories about how a Russian Navy ship went up in flames.

Russian authorities claim a fire broke out onboard the Moskva missile cruiser, which caused ammunition to blow up. But Ukrainian forces say they hit the ship with a missile.

The Russian Defense Ministry told state-run media the boat was evacuated and that the cause of the fire remains under investigation. There’s no word on any injuries, but it is reported that about 500 sailors were on board.

The war in Ukraine is now expected to enter a new phase in about three weeks. Officials are giving that target date as today marks 50 days since Russia invaded.

The White House says President Biden called Ukrainian President Zelensky and talked for about an hour Wednesday. Biden talked about continued U.S. support for Ukraine during Russia’s ongoing invasion. The U.S. is expected to roll out another military aid package for Ukraine this week.

Ukrainian authorities say almost 200 children have been killed in Ukraine since the start of the Russian war. Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office says at least 197 children have been killed and over 350 have been injured during the invasion. The office said the actual number of child casualties was assumed to be higher because the official figures did not include places with “active hostilities.”
