INDIANAPOLIS – A former Indiana state senator faces the possibility of five years in prison on two felony charges. Darryl Brent Waltz, 48, of Greenwood, pleaded guilty to making and receiving conduit contributions, and making false statements to the FBI.
A conduit contribution is essentially a contribution made by a hidden party.
Waltz and New Centaur, llc., casino executive John Keeler, 73, were both charged in Sept. 2020 with campaign violations regarding Waltz’s run for U.S. House. Both are accused of trying to hide contributions from Keeler to Waltz’s campaign.
Keeler is scheduled to go on trial next week in federal court.
Waltz was a Republican state senator from 2014 to 2016.
