INDIANAPOLIS–A woman died Saturday morning after a shooting and car crash, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Police heard there were shots fired just after 2 a.m. at JD’s Pub on Eagle Highlands Way. That’s near Eagle Creek Parkway and 38th Street. When the police arrived, they could not find a victim. Then they were told that the victim was being driven to the hospital.

“Our dispatch received a call of an inverted vehicle or rollover crash on I-65 and the person who called said they were the ones taking the person shot to the hospital,” said IMPD Nightwatch Commander Kerry Buckner.

IMPD says the gunshot victim was involved in an accident on I-65 near the exit to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street, which is one exit north of the IU Health Methodist Hospital trauma center. The car had rolled off the highway into a ditch. The woman was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, but later died there.

There were two men and two women inside the car at the time of the crash. A man and woman were thrown from the car and two people, including a man and the woman who was shot, were trapped inside the overturned car but were eventually helped out by emergency personnel.

Police did not give the condition of the other three people. They have not identified the woman who died.

Investigators are trying to figure out what caused the crash.

At least 15 shell casings were found in the parking lot of JD’s Pub in the strip mall where the shooting happened and a window to the bar was broken.

Police are trying to find the shooter. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact IMPD Detective Connie Pearson at 317.327.3544.
