INDIANAPOLIS — With the end of football season coming during the month of February, sports betting took an expected drop.

A report from the Indiana Gaming Commission says nearly $410 million in wagers were placed throughout the month of February.

The majority of $30 million in football wagers in Indiana were placed on the Super Bowl.

“As big as the Super Bowl is, there is no substitute for five full weekends of football games, as there were in January,” said lead analyst Jake Garza to Inside Indiana Business. “For that reason, February is always a slower month than January. Still, Indiana’s sports betting industry remains in excellent shape.”

Garza expects a big rebound in the late half of March and into April with post-season conference tournaments and the NCAA Tournament happening in college basketball.

He expects it to be especially significant with Notre Dame, Indiana, and Purdue all making it the NCAA Tournament field.
