Russian forces launched an attack in Ukraine in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Explosions could be heard in the capital city of Kyiv as Russian troops and tanks crossed over Ukraine’s northern and southern borders.

In a video address, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the move a “special military operation” in the Donbas region, aimed at “demilitarization and denazification” of Ukraine.

Ukraine officials say the early death toll from Russia’s military attack is up to 50, including some civilian casualties.

President Biden quickly condemned Russia’s military attack on Ukraine, promising “further consequences” from the U.S. and its allies.

Biden said Russian president Vladimir Putin has “chosen a premeditated war that will bring a catastrophic loss of life and human suffering”, adding “The world will hold Russia accountable.”

How should the U.S. and NATO countries respond to Russia’s invasion? Is there still a way to resolve this without a large-scale military response?
