INDIANAPOLIS — Two people were shot in a car along I-70 in Indianapolis Sunday evening.

State troopers say medics had to be called to a stretch of I-70 between Arlington and Shadeland on the east side at around 7:30. Officers say a man was in critical condition when they arrived at where a car was stopped along the interstate.

“Preliminary investigation by Indiana State Police Detectives determined an adult male was in the back seat of a passenger car on I-70 when they were allegedly shot at by someone in another vehicle,” said Sgt. John Perrine. “The driver of the car suffered minor injuries when they were hit by shrapnel from the gunfire.”

A third person in the car also was hit by gunfire, but that person fled the scene before police arrived.

“At this time investigators do not have a description of the suspect or the suspect vehicle,” Sgt. Perrine added.

The driver of the car was treated at the scene for minor injuries. The man who was critically shot in the backseat was taken to a nearby hospital and is recovering.
