(INDIANAPOLIS) – A two-week plunge in coronavirus cases comes just in time for your Super Bowl party.

Community Health chief medical officer Ram Yeleti says if you’re vaccinated and not at high risk from the virus, it should be safe to watch the Rams and Bengals with friends or at your local bar. He says his advice would have been different two months ago, when the explosive growth of the Omicron variant stretched hospitals past capacity.

Positivity rates are still in what the Department of Health considers high-risk territory, but they’re down 40% from record levels two weeks ago. Cases are down nearly 80%.

Yeleti warns the pandemic isn’t over, and some precautions are still advisable. If you’re over 70 or have health risks, he suggests watching from home or making sure those around you are vaccinated, especially if you’re not vaccinated yourself. But he says younger Hoosiers can focus on Matthew Stafford and Joe Burrow instead of the virus — he says as the virus loosens its grip, it’s important for people to be able to interact with each other again.
