BEIJING — Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in Beijing for the Winter Olympics with a lot of eyes around the world focused on him.
The Pentagon said yesterday that the U.S. thinks Moscow may be on the verge of staging a fake attack against Russians to justify an invasion of Ukraine. There’s also been a lot of speculation about whether Putin would be willing to send troops into Ukraine during the Games.
What he is committed to doing, however, is bringing a deal to supply more natural gas to China. Putin has told Chinese President Xi Jinping that Russia has put together a new deal to supply China with an additional ten-billion cubic meters of natural gas.
Russia is one of the world leaders in hydrocarbon supplies and has been strengthening its ties with China, which is the world’s top energy consumer.
