Days after the Marion County Sheriff’s Office revealed new details about a rumored cellblock takeover and anticipated ambush inside the Adult Detention Center, local and state representatives are calling for an investigation into the facility.
At least two dozen Marion County judges took part in a virtual conference with Sheriff Kerry Forestal and his command staff last week as Presiding Judge Amy Jones described the security situation inside the jail as a “powder keg ready to blow.”
The situation prompted calls for Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb to call in the Indiana National Guard to provide additional manpower for jail operations.
Increasingly, the National Guard is being asked to serve in various capacities that stray from its intended purpose. In essence, it has become a backstop for the fallout of bad government policy.
