EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Police are releasing the name of a man they say tried to break into a home and was shot by the homeowner.

Police say they got a call from a woman who said a stranger, Timothy Leavell was trying to break into her home through the sliding glass door.

The woman ran upstairs for help from her fiance, who came downstairs with his gun, and as Leavell kept trying to get inside the home the fiance shot him.

Leavell ran from the scene after that and was tracked down by police with a gunshot wound. After being treated at a hospital — he was booked into jail.
