STATEWIDE–Wind chills will drop below zero across the state Tuesday and Wednesday, but temperatures will warm back up towards the end of the week.

“Tuesday night is where we’re expecting the coldest air of the winter so far. Across the state, we’re expecting lows to be near zero. The bigger story may be the wind chills that will be -10 to -15 in some spots,” said Andrew White, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.

The biggest advice White can give about that is to “wear multiple layers.”

“If you’re going to be heading out the door Wednesday morning, we definitely want you to be bundled up. When we get temperatures near zero, you can quickly get frostbite if you’re outside too long, especially when you get those gusty winds,” said White.

Aside from some lake effect snow in northern Indiana, White says the rest of the state is expected to see dry weather for the most part.

“This cold period will be pretty brief. We’re expecting temperatures to rise back up near 20. Temperatures will be back to above freezing Thursday and Friday. As we get into Friday, we’ll be a little bit warmer with some chances for rain and snow. We may see temperatures in the 40s by Sunday,” said White.

There could be leftover snow in some areas that could lead to slick spots on roads, so White urges you to drive carefully.
