TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — The suspect in the murder of Terre Haute Police Detective Greg Ferency has been indicted by a federal grand jury.

Shane Meehan, 45, is facing charges of murder, attempted arson of federal property and using a firearm during a crime of violence causing death. Meehan is accused of ambushing Ferency outside of the FBI building in Terre Haute back on July 7th, 2021.

Investigators say Meehan drove to the building in his truck, got out and threw a Molotov cocktail at the building. When Ferency came outside, Meehan shot him in the head.

Ferency, who was also an FBI Task Force Officer, was one of 73 officers killed across the country in 2021.

Meehan was arrested on July 7th and has been ordered detained in the custody of the United States Marshal, pending trial. He will make his first appearance on the indictment at a later date.

The murder and firearms charges are capital-eligible offenses, meaning Meehan could face life in prison or death.
