A Tennessee lawmaker has apologized after he attempted to yank down the pants of a referee who issued him a technical foul for arguing at his son’s high school basketball game.

Rep. Jeremy Faison, the state House Republican Caucus chair, said in a statement Tuesday that he had “acted the fool tonight and lost my temper at a ref.”

“For years I thought how wrong it is when a parent looses [sic] their temper at a sporting event,” he wrote in a note posted on Twitter. “It’s not Christian and it’s not mature and it’s embarrassing to the child have always been my thoughts.”

To be fair, Christ never specifically forbid forcibly removing the trousers of a referee in response to a bad call. Further, Matthew 21:12 states that when Jesus entered the Temple to drive out those who were buying and selling in His Father’s house, “He overturned the tables of the money-changers and the benches of those selling doves.”

So who is to say Christ didn’t ‘pants’ a few of those folks as well?

The point is that we shouldn’t pass judgment on Rep. Faison’s poor judgment – not without video at least…

The Moral Lesson: Never remove anyone’s pants at a high school basketball game – not even your own.
