INDIANAPOLIS — A police officer fired his weapon at a suspect on the south side of Indianapolis Monday night

It was around 8:30 at an apartment complex along State Road 37 near Southport Road. Police had gotten a call about a trailer being stolen. Things got heavy when police approached the suspect in the apartment complex parking lot.

“He (the officer) had a struggle with the individual while the individual was in the car,” said IMPD Nightwatch Commander Kerry Buckner. “He was trying to get the individual out of the car and ended up discharging his firearm.”

The suspect took off at that point and it’s not clear if he was hit by gunfire. Police are now looking for the car he drove off in, a red or maroon Cadillac, a smaller SUV model.

No police officers were hurt.
