INDIANAPOLIS–Hundreds of flights have been cancelled across the country, with nearly 30 of those being canceled in Indianapolis this weekend.

“They canceled our flight. First it was postponed from 3 p.m. to 7:45. Then after we did our check-in with the luggage and everything, we find out that the flight got canceled,” said Jesus Fernandez, talking to WISH TV. He had a connecting flight to Las Vegas on Spirit Airlines.

He was able to rebook on Southwest, but had to spend an extra night in Indy.

“They filled out a voucher to spend on food and transportation. Plus they’re paying for us to stay in a hotl here,” said Fernandez.

The reasons for the cancellations were manifold, with COVID being a reason flights have been canceled across the country. The winter weather and busy travel times have also been factors.

Airlines are warning that you should keep up with your flights on their apps or through e-mail. They are working with people to try and help get them where they need to go.

“I have to call my boss. They’re not happy because we’re short-staffed,” said Fernandez.

Many of the cancellations from the weekend were spilling over into Monday, following one of the busiest travel weekends of the year.
