STATEWIDE–Don’t expect any snow for Christmas this year.
“It’s going to be pretty warm leading up to Christmas. By Christmas Eve, we’re going to have high temperatures near 60 degrees,” said Chad Swain, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.
Instead of snow, Swain believes there could be some rain.
“We’ll have a chance for some rain showers coming in on Christmas Eve and ending during the night on Christmas Eve. There may be a chance of rain for the day after Christmas. The whole state is getting about the same weather,” said Swain.
Swain expects dry weather throughout Christmas Day.
“We’ll be in the 50s on Christmas Eve. We could be in the 40s or 50s on Christmas Day depending on how fast the cold air behind the system moves in. Then we’ll be still above normal, but in the 40s for after Christmas,” said Swain.
The temperatures for December are about seven degrees above normal for this time of year.
“The overall pattern across the country is keeping the jet stream north of north central Indiana, so that is keeping all that cold air in Canada and up towards Alaska,” said Swain.
