JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind.–A man from Indianapolis was convicted for injuring a police officer in Johnson County earlier this year.

On September 17, 2021, Franklin police were called out to a car that was on fire on U.S. 31. They spotted Samuel M. Killin, 47, of Indianapolis nearby and walking away from the car. They learned that Killin had a suspended driver’s license, so they tried to take him into custody.

Investigators say Killin ran from police and punched one of the officers in the mouth and eye when the officer tried to stop him. Both of them fell into a ditch on the side of the road. Killin was arrested with the help of another Franklin police officer.

“Those who wear the badge, in any jurisdiction, are already exposed to enough danger. In Johnson County, we support and back our police officers, and those who seek to do harm to them will be held fully accountable. Mr. Killin’s case simply serves as the most recent example of that ongoing commitment,” said Johnson County Prosecutor Joe Villanueva.

The officer’s injuries were not serious. Killin was convicted December 15. His jury trial took two days.
