ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. — The pilot of an ultralight aircraft ended up in jail after crashing Monday afternoon in St. Joseph County.

Police were called around 4:40 p.m. to a report of a single-engine plane crash in the area of Grant Road and Wild Heather Drive.

When officers arrived, they found that an ultralight resembling a single-engine airplane had crashed at the entrance of the Heather Ridge subdivision.

The pilot, 61-year-old Joseph Krol, of Mill Creek, showed signs of impairment, according to Indiana State Police.

Officers gave Krol a field sobriety test at the scene and he failed.

After being medically cleared and submitting to a chemical test at a local hospital, Krol was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated. He was taken to the St. Joseph County Jail.
