BARGERSVILLE, Ind. — A man was shot by police Friday morning in Bargersville after fleeing from a Thursday night traffic stop.

Efrain Perez-Ramirez, 44, is in the hospital in serious condition.

Bargersville police stopped Perez-Ramirez Thursday night on State Road 144 near the Morningside neighborhood on the suspicion that he was driving drunk.

“It…began last night when a Bargersville police officer attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle. That turned into a vehicle pursuit for a short time, then led to a foot pursuit. The search for that suspect continued overnight for several hours,” said Indiana State Police Sgt. John Perrine.

People in the community gave police updates about where they saw Perez-Ramirez and Bargersville police were joined in their search by members of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and Indiana State Police.

On Friday morning, police found a man matching Perez-Ramirez’s description next to a house in a Bargersville neighborhood.

While interacting with police, Perez-Ramirez pointed a gun at officers.

One Johnson County Sheriff’s Deputy and one Indiana State Trooper fired their weapons, hitting Perez-Ramirez, said State Police.

Perez-Ramirez dropped the gun but refused to follow police directions. He was tased by a member of the Bargersville Police Department and arrested.

No officers were injured during the search or shooting and there is no danger to the community.
