MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. — A man was shot and killed by a sheriff’s deputy after a police chase in Marshall County.

It all began at around 2:00 p.m. Sunday on State Road 17 just west of Culver. A Culver police officer tried to pull over the driver of a pick-up truck who appeared to be drunk at the wheel.

Instead of pulling over, the driver kept going all throughout Marshall County, before coming to a stop in a parking lot in Culver.

It was in that parking lot that one of the pursuing deputies is said to have gotten out of their cruiser and became pinned between two cars by the driver they were chasing.

One of the deputies who was chasing the pick-up is said to have become pinned between two cars by the driver. The driver refused commands to get out of the car and when the driver pulled forward the deputy fired several shots.

The driver then drove several hundred feet, say investigators before crashing into an unoccupied parked car. The driver was given first aid for the gunshot wounds he took but was later pronounced dead at the scene.
