Founded by American Express in 2010, Small Business Saturday has become a major part of the holiday shopping season for many small businesses.
In 2019, shoppers at independent shops and restaurants spent an estimated $19.6 billion. In 2020, that number actually increased to $19.8 million, with many small businesses pivoting to selling online or through social media platforms, according to American Express.
