INDIANAPOLIS — The countdown to the holiday season has begun at the Indianapolis Zoo, where preparations are underway for the Nov. 20 opening of Christmas at the Zoo!

Back in 1967, the Indianapolis Zoo was the first zoo in the US to host a holiday lights event.

For its 53rd year, the seasonal tradition is bigger than ever with more lights, more nights, and more things to do!

Christmas at the Zoo opens on Nov. 20 and continues daily through Dec. 30. It will be closed only on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.

Festivities run from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Once again, Christmas at the Zoo is in the running for USA Today’s 10 Best Zoo Lights. Be sure to cast your vote to help the Indianapolis Zoo reach the top of the list!
