HOBART, Ind. — Police in Hobart are asking for the public’s help to find a man who set a fire in a pet store and stole a puppy late last month.

Security video shows a man entering the store on 83rd Ave. at around 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 26 and going into a cubicle set up for people to play with dogs.

Police say the man poured liquid from a water bottle onto the floor and ignited it, causing a fire. While store employees tried to put out the fire, the man grabbed a black French bulldog beagle mix puppy and ran out of the store.

The suspect was seen driving away in a gray, four-door car with an Illinois license plate. The car was missing a driver’s side hubcap and the front bumper.

An employee at the store was able to put out the fire. No one was hurt.

Anyone with information on the identity of the suspect is asked to contact Sgt. Robert Brazil at 219-942-4666 or by e-mail at rbrazil@cityofhobart.org.
