INDIANAPOLIS — A woman was shot and killed on the north side of Indianapolis in an incident that turned into a stand-off with police.
IMPD officers were called shortly after 3:00 Tuesday to the Covered Bridge Apartments near Georgetown Road and West 71st Street on the city’s northwest side. A woman was discovered to be shot and killed in a common area for an apartment building.
Police then say something happened they forced them to retreat from the building and call SWAT officers.
The situation turned into a three-hour standoff as police used loudspeakers and flash-bang grenades to try and coax out a suspect they thought was inside one of the units. It turns out no one was inside the building.
Police are not saying anything about who the suspect(s) was, but they do say they don’t think it was a random act.
The Covered Bridge Apartments are the same apartments where Maurice Swann was shot and killed in February 2020. That homicide case is still unsolved.
