RICHMOND, Ind. — A man stole a cop car in Richmond and took on a joy ride to Ohio.

Officers were responding to a call at the Richmond Square Mall on Monday. As they were walking back out to their squad cars in the parking lot, they noticed one of them was missing.

Dispatchers were notified and started tracking the car through its mapping system. Once locked in on its position, officers gave chase and caught up with the missing cruiser being driven by Michael Gard, 32.

They chased Gard into Ohio and as he tried to flee, Gard crashed into a guardrail along State Road 29 near the town of Sidney. He was arrested and charges are still pending.
