CROWN POINT, Ind.–The driver of a Ford Focus is seriously injured after crashing into a semi near Crown Point Tuesday afternoon.

State police say the driver of the 2010 blue Ford Focus, 36-year-old Jaime Wheeler of Wheatfield, was going southbound on I-65 when he lost control of it and hit the semi. The Focus got wedged under the trailer.

Wheeler was taken to a hospital with what police call “serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.” The driver of the semi was not injured.

Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor in the crash. Police do believe that Wheeler was going too fast for the wet road conditions.

The condition of the tires on the Ford Focus was also a contributing factor.
