At approximately 4 a.m. Friday, the Lawrence Police Department got into a chase with a 2013 black Kia Soul in the area of Pendleton Pike and Sheila Drive in Indianapolis.

The chase lasted 15 minutes and ended in the area of I-65 and Traders Lane in Indianapolis.

Shortly before 4:30 a.m., police got a call from a homeowner on State Road 32 in Boone County. The caller said a car crashed into a tree head-on outside their home.

Police arrived and found six teenagers inside a black Kia Soul.

Police believe the Kia was on County Road 650 East, crossed State Road 32, drove through a yard, and hit the tree.

The driver, a 14-year-old boy, and a front-seat passenger, a 13-year-old girl, died at the scene.

The other four people in the car were taken to nearby hospitals. They were identified by police as two 12-year-old girls, a 15-year-old boy, and a 16-year-old boy.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating.


BOONE COUNTY, Ind. — Two people were killed in a crash in Boone County early Friday morning.

Boone County Sheriff Mike Nielsen says the crash happened along State Road 32. The crash was discovered by Lawrence police officers.

“We did start a pursuit in Lawrence that led through parts of the east side and eventually north towards Boone County,” said Lawrence Police Deputy Chief Gary Woodruff. “We terminated the pursuit in Marion County.”

However, LPD officers were still in the area and found the wreck. Investigators believe it happened on State Road 32 near County Road 600 East. That’s just south of Gadsden.

Police have not said why the chase began in Lawrence.

Nielsen believes the driver crashed into a tree. The driver was killed. A 14-year-old girl was also killed. Four other kids ranging age from 12 to 16 were taken to a hospital with various injuries.

Investigators are trying to figure out what made the driver go off the road.
