Sheriff Richard Kelly identified the victims as Promise Mays, 21, and her grandmother Pamela Sled, 62 They drove to work together.

The suspect, who was arrested after a chase into Frankfort, where he crashed his car in a construction zone, is Gary C. Ferrell, II, 26, of Frankfort, a co-worker of the women police say he shot and killed.

Kelly said he did not have any information on a motive, other than confirming all three worked at the plant. He said, as far as he knows, Ferrell did not have a criminal history.

“At this time I can’t say whether they were random or whether they were targeted,” said the sheriff.

He noted that the shooting happened at shift change, and a lot of people were in the general area where the shooting happened.

“At this time they’re executing search warrants with the FBI and the ATF,” he said. Kelly said the Clinton County prosecutor would be announcing charges against Ferrell once search warrants had been completed and forensics and witness statements were complete.

Renee Crick, with Clinton County 911, said her dispatchers received 9 calls immediately after the shooting. They were able to get accurate descriptions of the suspect to cops, who were able to chase him down and arrest him quickly.
