SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind.–A woman was arrested for stealing money that police say rightfully belonged to the son of a Terre Haute police officer who died over three years ago.

On March 6, 2021, state police say they began investigating Josie Huff, 31, of Robinson, Illinois. Her son is the child of Terre Haute police officer Rob Pitts. Pitts was killed on the job in 2018 while investigating a murder at the Garden Quarter apartment complex in Terre Haute.

Police say Huff had been misusing and misappropriating money for herself by taking it from her son’s estate in the amount of $248,654.81. They say they were tipped off to Huff’s illegal activity by a tip they got from a family member.

Huff was arrested by the Robinson Illinois Police Department on Thursday on a theft charge. She will be transported to Sullivan County and be held on $15,000 bond.
