INDIANAPOLIS — An Indy Metro Police officer is charged with domestic battery.

IMPD officers were called to investigate a possible assault on Wednesday, June 16. When officers learned that one of the involved parties was an off-duty IMPD officer, detectives from the IMPD Special Investigation Unit were requested for further investigation. When the investigation was complete, the findings were presented to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.

Five-year IMPD veteran James Cox is charged with domestic battery committed in the presence of a child less than 16 years old. He was notified of the charges and turned himself in on July 26.

Cox is suspended as a result of unrelated department violations, said IMPD.

Chief Randal Taylor will review the charges and made a determination of Ofc. Cox’s status with the department before the end of his current suspension.
