Tower: “You can proceed directly to the runway.”

Pilot: “…Um… I’m not making it to the runway…”

This video of student pilot Brian Parsley flying a plane that lost its engine is amazing – especially when you consider the fact that half of all Americans ‘piloting’ their car into a parking spot at Walmart.

Here’s a description of what happened:

On May 22, 2021, Student Pilot Brian Parsley was completing his solo long cross-country flight. Approximately 12 miles from the airport, he started experiencing a rough engine. Assuming it was “carb ice” took appropriate measures. The camera was started after it cleared to show the instructor should it happen again. Shortly after communicating to ATC, the video picks up. This was more than just a “near-death” experience. It was an incredible learning opportunity for others as well.

The incident reminded Hammer and Nigel of that time that Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger (aka Nigel) landed a plane on the Hudson River.
