American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten says the union “will defend any member who gets in trouble for teaching honest history” despite violating the state’s or parents’ wishes of teaching CRT.
During the AFT’s TEACH Virtual Conference 2021, Weingarten spoke about Critical Race Theory being the future of education. In her talk she also claimed numerous times that Republicans and parents are harassing teachers.
“There are legislators, mostly from the Republican party, who are currently bullying teachers and trying to stop us from teaching kids honest history.”
Weingarten continues with the bullying theory stating “’culture warriors are labeling any discussion of race, racism or discrimination’ as CRT to try to make it ‘toxic.’ They are bullying teachers and trying to stop us from teaching students accurate history.”
Tony Katz says if anything parents are the ones being bullied.
“Parents you’re right. Don’t let these people bully you, they’re your children. Stand up, get more of you, talk to each other, and continue to fight for better education for your kids. The AFT wants indoctrination and they’ve just proven it to you.”
The AFT leads a little over 1 million teachers.
Currently, 26 states have introduced legislation to restrict CRT from the classroom.
