COLUMBUS, Ind. — A Columbus man was arrested late Tuesday night after he crashed into a house while trying to run from police.

Officers tried to stop an SUV just before midnight Tuesday because the driver, identified as 38-year-old Melvin Foree, had a warrant.

Foree sped away from officers, drove through a stop sign, and crashed into a car near the intersection of Eighth Street and Hutchins Avenue.

After the crash, Foree kept going until he crashed into the front porch of a home in the 700 block of Hutchins Ave., causing minor damage.

Foree got out of his SUV and tried to run, but police caught him and he was arrested.

Foree was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on charges of leaving the scene of an accident, resisting law enforcement, reckless driving, and driving while suspended with a prior conviction.
