The National Archives’ racism task force wants ‘trigger warnings’ to be placed along beside historical content in the building and called its own Rotunda an example of “structural racism.”

The report, which was critical of the Founding Fathers, claimed that the Rotunda – which houses the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution – “lauds wealthy White men in the nation’s founding while marginalizing BIPOC [Black, Indigenous and other People of Color], women, and other communities.”

The task force suggested ways to “reimagine the Rotunda,” including staging “dance or performance art in the space that invites a dialogue about the ways that the United States has mythologized the founding era.” The report also called for “trigger warnings” to be put in place with historical content to “forewarn audiences of content that may cause intense physiological and psychological symptoms.”

Suggested Text For Trigger Warning At National Archive:

If you are here from Sweden, India or even California; and don’t like the mostly ‘English Men’ you may encounter on the walls of our National Archives, that’s alright. We understand and respect your view. These are our founding fathers and like they say, ‘nobody gets to choose their parents.’

Still, we are very proud of them just as most of you may be of your own parents. We celebrate them here, because in the name of liberty, these men in their time, endured great risk and much more discomfort than their presence might bring to us, here today. They threw off the oppression they were born into, by taking up arms against the British Crown in a world changing revolution of freedom.

We understand they may not be everybody’s ‘cup of tea.’ That happens. They weren’t perfect but compared to the folks before them, they got a lot of stuff right.

When it comes to history, it can be hard to see yourself in the mix. We do not wish to offend anyone but you see, we won a historic revolution for the rights of everyday people and these are the inspired individuals who lead our victory in that time. This is where we’ve chosen to tell this part of that story.

We hope you are able to enjoy a most enriching visit. Don’t forget to stop by the gift shop on your way out. We’ve got rock candy and founding father bobbleheads on special.

And finally, enjoy the following hour of the Mock n’ Rob Show with our compliments.
