INDIANAPOLIS — Advocates and state officials are preparing for a coming wave of evictions in Indiana.

The federal moratorium on evictions ends at the end of the month, and thousands of people could be kicked out of their homes.

Andrew Bradley, with the group Prosperity Indiana, says it is a race against time. The evictions are coming because many people are behind on their rent, or simply haven’t paid since the state and federal governments put a hold on evictions during the coronavirus outbreak.

Bradley says there are 45,000 evictions on file with the courts across the state, with more than 16,000 evictions in Indianapolis alone.
