INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Pacers are firing Nate Bjorkgren after just one season as their head coach.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported the news just before Noon Wednesday.

The Pacers went 34-38 during the 2020-21 NBA season, and missed the playoffs for the first time in six years. They had a losing record at home for the first time in 32 years.

During the season, there were reports that Bjorkgren and the players were not getting along in the locker room. During a Zoom call meeting after the season, President of Basketball Operations Kevin Pritchard mentioned that some players described Bjorkgren’s style as micromanaging.

Indiana hired Bjorkgren last year after firing Nate McMillan. McMillan is now the head coach of the Atlanta Hawks, who are still currently in the playoffs.
