INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis man has been found guilty of fatally shooting another man outside an east side bar in 2018.
Derek Whitt has been convicted of voluntary manslaughter in the death of David Ballinger.
Video footage from the bar on English Avenue shows Whitt’s then-fiance having an argument with Ballinger on Aug. 25, 2018.
Later that evening, Whitt came to the bar and confronted Ballinger, then started a fight with him in the parking lot.
The fight ended when Whitt pulled out a gun and shot Ballinger once in the chest. Whitt remained at the scene until police arrived.
Multiple witnesses reported seeing the fight between the two men and identified Whitt as the man who shot Ballinger.
A sentencing hearing is set for June 4.
