COLUMBUS, Ind. — A man from Indianapolis was arrested Monday for lighting another man on fire.

The Columbus Police Department says around 3:30 a.m., 39-year-old Ralph Shaw got into a fight with the man. Witnesses say the argument escalated.

“He was actually holding a glass jar that contained the gasoline, and at some point, the injured man was set on fire,” Lt. Matt Harris said. “According to reports, he had burns over a large portion of his body, and he was transported by medical helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for additional treatment.”

That afternoon, police found Shaw in a park and arrested him without incident.

He is preliminarily charged with a level 3 felony of aggravated battery. He also had two outstanding warrants for his arrest in Marion County.
