LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A Lafayette man is in jail after police found a missing 9-year-old girl in his home Monday evening.

Lafayette Police were called to a home on Main Street just before 7 p.m. to help locate a missing girl.

The girl’s mother told police she had been missing for about half an hour before police were called.

A man, later identified as 42-year-old James Chadwell, mentioned seeing the girl during the timeframe she was reported missing, according to police.

Police searched Chadwell’s home and the little girl was found inside. She had bruises and a possible dog bite on her leg, officers said. The girl was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Chadwell was arrested for criminal confinement and taken to the Tippecanoe County Jail.

Police are still looking into what happened.
